Frequently Asked Questions

What Happens in the Initial Appointment?
The first appointment is used to establish whether the issue/s you want to bring to therapy are ones I can help with, and if they are, whether you would like to continue with further sessions. Looking forward, we then need to establish whether we can agree a mutually convenient time and day each week to meet. The day/time slot we agree is then reserved for you.

Length of Sessions, Regularity of Sessions and Cancellation Policy
Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes. As agreed during our initial meeting, your therapy session will take place on the same day and at the same time each week. If for some reason you need to change the time of an appointment I will do my best to accommodate your request. Full fees are payable for missed sessions or sessions that are cancelled less than 24 hours in advance of our appointment. No fees are payable for sessions cancelled 24 hours or more prior to our appointment.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?
How many sessions you require will depend on the kind of issues you bring to therapy and the goals you yourself have for the work we undertake. Sometimes only a few sessions are sufficient and sometimes longer-term work is more helpful, especially if the problems you bring to therapy are complex.

Confidentiality
What you tell me in our sessions is confidential. Confidentiality extends to my clinical supervision, where aspects of the work you and I do together may be discussed with my supervisor. Clinical supervision is an essential component of good counselling psychology practice and is confidential. However, I am legally obliged to break confidentiality and inform relevant parties if you disclose actual or intended harm to yourself or others.

My email address is not secured so be aware what you write to me is not data protected. This is also the case with text messages.

Fees
Each session must be paid for at the end of each session by cash, cheque or bank transfer. If you would like information about my fees, please contact me.

Health Insurance
You are responsible for arranging any health insurance cover for your therapy sessions.
Your policy will determine the number of sessions your insurer will pay for and whether the insurer will cover the full cost of each session. It is important to check the terms of your cover before embarking on therapy as you are responsible for all charges on your account. It is also important to note that health insurers generally will not pay for sessions that are missed or cancelled (without sufficient notice - please check with your insurer); you will be responsible for meeting the cost of such sessions.

Holidays
I will not charge you for sessions I am unable to provide because I am away due to holidays or any other absence. You will be given as much notice as possible concerning planned breaks in your treatment. When the regular day/time slot of a therapy session falls on a public or bank holiday, you will not be charged for the missed session.
